How do I connect my P2 Solo?

Before you start Check your version of MinKNOW by visiting ‘Host settings → Software’ within the MinKNOW software, you must run MinKNOW 23.04 as a minimum, however the latest version is recommended. To check MinKNOW you MinKNOW version, go to: Host settings → Software

Version_1

Review connection requirements within the USB port compatibility table below before connecting the P2 Solo to the host compute.

Connecting to host compute & performing a hardware check

  1. Open MinKNOW on the host computer
  2. Connect the supplied mains adaptor to the P2 Solo
  3. Connect the USB-C cable between the P2 Solo and computer.
  4. Power on your P2 Solo. The Green LED on the rear of the device will now be illuminated.
  5. The P2 Solo will appear in MinKNOW.
  6. Refer to the Quick start guide for instructions on running the hardware check.

Once the hardware check has completed (typically within 15 minutes) your P2 Solo is setup and ready to use, if the check failed or did not complete within the allotted time refer to the troubleshooting guide for further information.

Troubleshooting If using a GridION ensure that the USB C port is not obstructed by tabs. Ensure a firm connection is enabled to the rear USB-C port. You may need to pull back the metal tabs circled red on either side of the connector is you do not hear a firm click.

Version_2

P2 Solo did not appear in MinKNOW. In some cases, it may be necessary to ‘flip the USB C connector’, power down the P2 Solo, remove the USB-C cable and reinsert with the P2 Solo print flipped, power on the and wait for it to appear within MinKNOW.

Version_3

P2 Solo appears but disconnects. Review the USB port compatibility table to ensure a suitable port has been selected.

I do not have a suitable USB-C port Contact support who will provide a compatible USB-A to C cable. Do not use your own cable as this may not be the correct specification. Once the cable is received ensure it is connect to a USB 3 (or higher) port. Use of a USB 2 port will result in connection issues.

P2 Solo still does not appear in MinKNOW Ensure USB port functionality is not being restricted by third party software on your host machine. This could be an Antivirus or Endpoint detection and Response package. If your IT security policies require such third party software please contact your IT department to ensure the below codes are ‘white listed’ within the ‘Peripheral controls’ of the third party software. The exact white listing steps vary with each third party software. Users will be responsible for validating the sufficiency of the applied codes on P2 Solo performance.

  • Product: P2 Solo
  • ONT Vendor ID: 2a1d
  • Initial Connection ID: 0090
  • Programmed ID: 0091
