Biography

Dr. Kamil Khanipov is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. With a BS in Biology from the University of Houston and a PhD in Computer Science, Kamil’s laboratory specializes in developing methods and techniques for pathogen detection, microbiome characterization, and utilizing NGS to improve health outcomes. Recently, he has focused on bioaerosol microbiomes and was appointed to a NATO Science and Technology Research Task Group. Kamil leads efforts to characterize the background air microbiome across the US and linking air microbiomes to health outcomes to create healthy environments. Upcoming projects include the development of indoor air biosensors to reduce respiratory disease incidence in public schools.
