- Rapid genome surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 and portable DNA sequencing technology
SARS-CoV-2 has spread with the evolution of its viral genome since its emergence in late 2019. Since the publication of the first sequence at the beginning of 2020, viral genome sequencing has become a powerful tool to study the SARS-CoV-2 genome. The genome variation study enables a comprehensive understanding of virus transmission, rate of mutations, track evolution, development of vaccines, and treatment. The Oxford Nanopore MinION is a field-deployable, portable device capable of generating real-time, long-read sequences, facilitating the fastidious sequencing of viral genomes.
