Multi-omics analysis reveals COVID-19 vaccine induced attenuation of inflammatory responses during breakthrough disease

The immune mechanisms responsible for the protection provided by Oxford-AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine are still unclear, but are important to understand for future vaccine development. The authors revealed distinct immune responses between vaccinated individuals and placebo recipients, through nanopore transcriptome sequencing. These differences provide a mechanistic understanding to how the vaccine reduces disease severity, and highlight biomarkers for future vaccine research.
