The UC San Diego Center for Microbiome Innovation (CMI) provides scalable, validated sample processing and data generation for academic, government, and industry research. Its integrated, end-to-end services cover protocol design, participant engagement, sample processing, and data analysis, all tailored to each partner's research objectives. CMI's automated, quality-controlled pipelines support next-generation sequencing and metabolomics, and its omics toolkit also includes metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and multiplex proteomics. The center processes more than 120,000 samples a year, and advanced bioinformatics and analytics reveal key microbial interactions and functional pathways. Through industry partnerships, CMI helps companies validate, refine, and accelerate innovations across healthcare, personal care, nutrition, and biotechnology. These collaborations link partners with UC San Diego faculty, researchers, and trainees, developing the talent and technology the field needs. Partners also gain access to workshops and seminars for faculty and students.
