How do I create an account?
How do I create an account?
Before we start with an account application, there are 2 things to consider:
Have you created a Personal Profile with Oxford Nanopore yet? This is where you can log in to our websites (including our store) with a username and password.
If your answer is Yes skip to the "Do you need to create a new account?" section.
If your answer is No, here is how to create your profile. On our corporate website, click the “Login” button at the top of your screen. Then click the ”Need to set up a login? Click here” button.
If you are on our store, click the “Login / Register” button. The Register button in the New Customers section
Either version will show you our Create a Profile page. Now, we need to capture your name, email address, and organisation details and set a password, so we can start creating your account. Please use your organisation email address for the best results when later joining or creating an account.
We will also ask a little about your job role and interests in our product. This will vary depending on your role within your organisation.
Once you have completed this section, you will see a screen asking you to enter a verification code that has been emailed to you with the subject “Oxford Nanopore: Verification code.”
On entering the verification code, you will be taken back to the login page, where you will need to enter your email address and the password you just created. This completes verifying your email address.
You will then see this screen, and your Personal Profile is available for accessing our Nanopore Community:
Do you need to create a new account?
You only need to be on an account to purchase from Oxford Nanopore, download software for a device or access our Technical Support for purchased devices.
If you don’t need to do these actions, a Personal Profile will be enough for now.
Let’s determine whether you need a new account.
You need a new account if:
- Your organisation has no existing accounts
- You have a different funding source from any existing accounts
- You are in a different location from the existing accounts, such as a different city, region or country.
- It is not appropriate for you to share your account with existing users
Aren’t sure whether your organisation has an account?
Or you are already using Oxford Nanopore products, so your organisation must already have an account with ONT?
Click “Join An Account” to see the list of available accounts.
Click in the “Start Typing here” box to see ALL the available accounts or narrow the list by searching in the box.
If there are zero accounts offered, you can “Create a new organisation account” instead.
This may occur even if your organisation has an account if you are using a non-organisation email address, such as Gmail.
Please do contact support@nanoporetech.com if you know there are accounts that you can’t see. By gathering more information from you, our Customer Care team will be able to resolve this for you.
You’ve determined you need an account:
This is what you need to proceed.
You personally need to know:
- The registered or formal name of your organisation. An example is Oxford Nanopore Technologies PLC, which is our registered name.
- You can select an account name that is more meaningful to you as well.
- The address of your registered organisation or head office.
- You can enter directly or delegate to other people during the process:
- Financial information: billing address & tax status
- Delivery details: shipping address (more addresses can be added when ordering later)
Compliance:
- A website URL (this can be a LinkedIn page or other identifier if your organisation doesn’t have a website).
- Your intended use of our products and any links to military or nuclear work or organisations. This has extra regulatory actions.
- Whether our goods will be resold to a third party.
- Someone must agree to Oxford Nanopore Technologies Plc.'s standard terms and conditions.
You are ready to create a new organisation account
If you aren’t already logged into your Personal Profile, you can access it at https://portal.nanoporetech.com/
Select one of the Create Account buttons.
Enter your preferred account name, as distinct from the name of your organisation. This might be the name of your team, lab or department that will use the products you will purchase.
We ask next for the country to narrow down the list of organisations we offer you next.
Enter the organisation name you work for by typing or pasting. That is again the legally registered name or way your organisation would be known formally. Please avoid abbreviations or nicknames.
If within our organisation database, you can select it and the address from a list.
If the organisation listing has any missing data, you will be asked to enter it. In this example, the county/state/region is missing.
If you are not offered any relevant organisation, you can enter the organisation name and address manually. The above image shows the required information.
On saving the Account Name page, you may be shown a list of existing accounts we have identified for your organisation. This will be skipped if there are no existing accounts.

But you can proceed to the New Account Justification Reason if you are already certain.
New Account Justification Reason is a choice between the default reasons of;
- Different billing details from existing accounts – displayed in the list if available
- New account location
Other – if selected, you will explain your need in the Reason for new account field.
Completing the account application. Congratulations, you’ve created the account application. We now need the rest of the details we mentioned before.
- You can start and complete any section in your own time.
- Click Start on any section to see the details.
- You can expand any section to see exactly what is needed before you start.
- Once each section is entered, you can edit the results until the application is submitted.
- If you complete each section yourself, you will Click Submit Application when the 5 tasks are completed.
OR you can delegate any section to a colleague:
- If the delegated person completes the last task, the application will submit automatically, and you will be notified.
- You will be notified if the delegation is rejected.
- You and the recipient will get a daily reminder for any outstanding tasks.
- You can cancel the delegation at any time. Either delegate to another colleague or complete yourself.
- Wherever an address is needed, you will be offered any existing address you have entered.
- Entering a new address will repeat the options you used when entering the organisation name.
- If you need to add extra detail to an address, please use the Add it Manually option to have full control.
Financial information: If unknown, this would be suitable for delegation to your finance or procurement team.
Billing address: This is the country, organisation name and address to which your organisation receives invoices. It may be the same as the organisation name and address [or delivery address] previously entered. It is normally displayed on your organisation’s purchase orders
Tax Status: We ask you to define your organisation type, as this allows us to offer the standard Sales Tax status for any type. You can alter the default.
If you choose Tax Exempt, depending on your location, you may need to enter a Tax or VAT number or upload a certificate of exemption.
Email address(es) to receive invoices : enter each email needed and click Add after each instance. Including if there is only 1 address. You can delete any that are entered incorrectly.
Delivery Details: This is the default country, organisation name and address to which your organisation receives deliveries for this account. You will be able to add additional delivery addresses at the point of ordering, if required. It may be the same as the organisation name and address [or billing address] previously entered.
Compliance: We request certain details to verify your organisation’s identity, assess eligibility for trade terms, and meet our legal and regulatory obligations. Your data will be used only for the purposes of processing your account application, managing your relationship with us, and maintaining secure business operations.
Your organisation's website address allows us to validate your business without further information from you, should any queries be raised. If your organisation does not have a website, then any online record of the business, including LinkedIn or other company profiles, can be used.
Are you intending to resell, distribute or provide the products to a third party? If the answer is Yes, a direct account with ONT is NOT the way to supply your customers. If you are reading this, please contact support@nanoporetech.com, and our Customer Care team will explain how to proceed.
Will the products be used for military or nuclear applications or for military or nuclear end-use purposes? If so, saying yes now will ensure that all regulatory requirements are met. This may delay your account approval, but it will provide a smooth purchasing process when it matters.
If unsure, such use includes:
- Military, defence, national security, including research and development.
- Any purpose connected with chemical, biological or nuclear weapons, or missiles capable of delivering such weapons.
- Research, development, design, manufacture, construction, testing or maintenance of any nuclear explosive device or its components.
- Any nuclear explosive activity or unsafeguarded nuclear fuel cycle.
- Research, development, design, manufacture, construction, operation, or maintenance of unsafeguarded nuclear facilities or installations.
- Activities involving source or special fissionable material without required IAEA safeguards.
- Heavy water production without the required IAEA safeguards or where such obligations are unmet.
Intended use statement: Please provide information regarding your intended use of Oxford Nanopore products and platform.
Legal agreement: You must agree to Oxford Nanopore Technologies Plc.'s standard terms and conditions and be authorised to agree to the terms and conditions on behalf of your organisation. If you are not, your legal or contracts team will normally be the best colleagues to delegate this to.
All tasks are now completed. If you have delegated these, the last task submitted will automatically submit the application, and you will receive an email notification of this. If you are completing all the tasks yourself, please click the Submit Application button. You will then see an onscreen confirmation.
During the application process or after submitting the application, you can add “Key Account Contacts” for ONT to use to communicate on specialist areas if you do not want to be the contact for all communication and queries.
Please note that this does not provide account access to those you invite, but creates these contacts in our systems for communication.
If you would like these or other people to have a login with ONT and be added to your account with permissions within our store or Community, please wait until the account is approved. Then you can invite these users in My Account.
Each contact type lists why you might want to add them.
Click Add new contact to start, and this will open the form. This example shows the IT/Admin contacts, but the fields are the same for each type.
- Enter the following fields in turn: First Name, Last Name, Email address and Telephone number.
- Update the country to the correct one for the phone number and remove any leading 0 from the main number.
