- Population-based nanopore sequencing of the HIV-1 pangenome to identify drug resistance mutations
HIV-1 drug resistance testing now requires the analysis of multiple segmented genes, meaning that traditional Sanger sequencing is no longer sufficient. Here the authors use nanopore sequencing to construct near-full-length HIV-1 genomes, allowing for comparable detection of drug resistance to Sanger sequencing. As their method is simpler and more comprehensive, the authors suggest that it could be used in clinical settings globally.
