The Biology of Genomes

Tue 10th May - Sat 14th May 2022

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, Cold Spring Harbor, NY, USA

The 33rd annual meeting on The Biology of Genomes will address DNA sequence variation and its role in molecular evolution, population genetics and complex diseases, comparative genomics, large-scale studies of gene and protein expression, and genomic approaches to ecological systems.

Oxford Nanopore Technologies Seminar

Biology of Genomes attendees are invited to join us for a lunchtime seminar on Wednesday, 11th May, to hear from two scientists who will present on their research using Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ PromethION to characterize large genomes.

Our first speaker, Ariel Gershman, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine PhD Candidate, BCMB, will present her recent research on the ruby-throated hummingbird.

Title: Nanopore sequencing provides genomic insights into metabolic  flux in ruby-throated hummingbirds

Our second speaker Dr. John E. Gorzynski, DVM PhD Stanford University, will present on his recent work to perform whole genome sequencing of NICU patients using a novel approach with the PromethION device that resulted in the fastest sequencing of a human genome (a Guiness World Record).

Title: Ultra-rapid whole genome Nanopore sequencing in a critical care setting

Please RSVP for this event. Lunch will be included.
