JAMS -- Joint Academic Microbiology Seminars presents*
The 2018 TOAST Workshop
$250.00 registration (including light lunch and coffee)
3rd generation sequencing technologies, also known as long-read sequencing, is continuing to revolutionise DNA and RNA sequencing. Increased read lengths enable complete gene isoform sequencing, gap closing of existing genome and sequencing and assembly of complete microbial genomes. This year's TOAST workshop will be focused on whole genome sequencing using the handheld MinlON sequencer developed by Oxford Nanopore with hands-on sequencing session and subsequent bioinformatic downstream data analysis.
Day one: Hands-on lab day
- Getting to know your MinION
- Library preparation
- Yep, we're sequencing a genome
- How to re-use your flow cells
Day two: Bioinformatics
- Where is my data?
- MinlON base calling
- Genome assembly
- Error correction & genome polishing
All you need is your brain and a laptop
