Research Scientist - Oxford, UK
Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Scientist to join the Research Team, working on organic chemical synthesis and biological chemistry.
The Research Scientist will be responsible for the design, synthesis and characterisation of a range of molecules to be used within the sequencing chemistry of ONT technology, for example those for conjugating proteins to other molecules (both large and small) and linking small molecules to polymers for use in an aqueous environment. They must work well within an interdisciplinary team and have excellent attention to detail. Using a broad range of general chemical knowledge, the Research Scientist will develop an understanding of the duties of each section in the division, in order to effectively contribute to all. Knowledge of existing protein conjugation strategies is required, as well as the ability to iterate, change and re-imagine them to suit new requirements.
Applications are encouraged from candidates who can adapt quickly to new challenges and enjoy working with an agile approach to research. The candidate will need to work meticulously to a high standard and be able to perform well under pressure to meet deadlines in a highly demanding and fast paced environment.
A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in synthetic organic chemistry with a strong emphasis on biological chemistry or similar field is required in addition to relevant experience working in an organic synthesis laboratory, practical knowledge of protein chemistry, and a willingness to use a broad range of chemical techniques to achieve targets.
Please note that no terminology in this advert is intended to discriminate on the grounds of a person's gender, marital status, race, religion, colour, age, disability or sexual orientation.
Every candidate will be assessed only in accordance with their merits, qualifications and abilities to perform the duties of the job.
