Oxford Nanopore Technologies is developing and commercialising a new generation of nanopore-based electronic systems for analysis of single molecules, including DNA, RNA and proteins. The handheld MinION™ device and the high-throughput/high sample number PromethION™ systems are designed to provide novel qualities in molecular sensing such as real-time data streaming, improved simplicity, efficiency and scalability of workflows and direct analysis of the molecule of interest.
The technology is multidisciplinary and spans various scientific areas which is reflected in our IP portfolio. The scientific area is principally life sciences but includes elements of chemistry, microfabrication, electronics, engineering, computational biology, bioinformatics and solid state materials.
We are seeking an experienced (2-3 yrs PQE minimum) European Patent Attorney to join our IP team who will be responsible for the substantial and growing portion of our IP estate. He/she will have a background in life sciences or chemistry with knowledge of life sciences but will also be someone who is comfortable with interacting with scientists/mathematicians/engineers from the other disciplines. The ideal candidate is someone who is dynamic, self-assured, able to work independently, has excellent technical and commercial aptitude with excellent communication, team working, patent prosecution/drafting and project management skills. Reporting to the Head of IP, this role will provide substantial flexibility in growing and shaping the patent portfolio in alignment with the business strategy as well as helping shape the future direction of the IP department. Responsibilities will include the prosecution and management of the IP estate, drafting of new patents and management of relationships with external collaborators. You will work closely with the internal R&D and corporate team, external counsel and licensors.
