Genomic Applications Team Lead (US)

We are looking for an exceptionally motivated, innovative, and experienced molecular biologist to join the San Francisco Bay Area Genomic Applications Team as a Genomic Applications Team Leader. This exciting and challenging role is initially laboratory-based, and involves working both independently and collaboratively to demonstrate the use of nanopore technology in a wide range of novel sequencing and molecular sensing applications. As the team grows, the Team Leader will be responsible for mentoring 1-2 Genomic Applications scientists and day-to-day interaction and communication with 1-2 Genomic Applications bioinformaticians. The role will suit a PhD graduate, with research experience in industry or academia, with a proven track record of mentoring and / or leadership.
Reporting to the Director, Genomic Applications in NYC, the successful candidate will be a skilled PhD-level geneticist / genomicist who has extensive practical laboratory experience and theoretical knowledge of novel experimental design and appropriate analysis. They will be excited about Oxford Nanopore’s technology, will be familiar with our customers’ publications and will be adept at thinking of new potential applications of the technology. The ideal candidate will have worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will have experience of the whole experimental cycle from sample collection through to high quality publication. They will be responsible for projects from initial conceptualisation through to presentation, with analysis done in close collaboration with bioinformaticians. A broad knowledge of sequencing applications, and the ambition to use sequencing technologies creatively to answer important biological questions are essential.
Essential skills for this role include mastery of a wide range of molecular biological techniques, particularly DNA and RNA manipulation, method and assay development, amplification and enrichment techniques, expertise in sample and library preparation, and quality control of these preparations. Applicants should have expertise in creating new methods of working with DNA and RNA or of significantly adapting and modifying existing protocols.
Experience with next generation sequencing, particularly those that are nanopore-based, and familiarity with bioinformatics and/or biostatistical analyses would be an advantage.
